THE CHALLENGE
Seething Akira are not a band you can capture with a static camera and a few wide shots. A 6-piece electronic nu-core band from Portsmouth with festival appearances at Bloodstock, Victorious and Camden Rocks, a BBC Introducing feature and a deal with Los Angeles based independent label FiXT Radium, they had built a reputation for live performances that are as chaotic and explosive as the music itself.
Dysfunctional Wonderland was the title track of their highly anticipated second album, a 10-track record that blended modern rock, metal and electronics with a take-no-prisoners vocal style from founding members Charlie Bowes and Kit Conrad. The video needed to match all of that energy without compromise. High octane, relentless and impossible to look away from. Anything less would have let the track down.
THE PLAN
We brought the band to The Wedgewood Rooms, one of Portsmouth’s most iconic and beloved live music venues, and built the video around pure performance energy. No distractions. No elaborate narrative. Just Seething Akira doing what they do best, turned up to full volume and captured with the kind of kinetic, high-energy direction that the track demanded.
The entire approach was built around momentum. Fast cuts, dynamic camera movement, lighting that matched the aggression of the music and a edit that never let the energy drop for a single second. The goal was simple. Make someone watch this video and immediately want to see Seething Akira live.
Every creative decision was made in service of the track. Dysfunctional Wonderland is a song about the human mind, how it processes information and how it can be altered and manipulated beyond our control. The visual treatment reflected that sense of overwhelming, relentless energy, a world that never stops moving and never gives you a moment to breathe.
THE RESULTS
The official music video for Dysfunctional Wonderland landed alongside the album release on September 3rd 2021 via FiXT Radium, giving the band a flagship visual centrepiece for one of the most anticipated electronic nu-core releases of the year. The video captured everything that makes Seething Akira impossible to ignore and introduced them to a global audience through the reach of their US label.
For a band that has been featured on Kerrang Radio, Scuzz and BBC Introducing, and has shared stages with The Qemists and The Algorithm, the video needed to hold its own on an international stage. Filmed in Portsmouth, delivered to the world.
