Case Study: Creation DMC's Video Series for Pompey Positive

Client: Pompey Positive
Industry: Community & Local Heroes
Project: Video Series Launch
Company: Creation DMC

Introduction

Pompey Positive, a community-driven initiative celebrating the inspiring people making a difference in Portsmouth, partnered with Creation DMC to produce a compelling video series. The goal of the series was to shine a spotlight on local heroes who are contributing to the growth and spirit of Portsmouth. The first episode features Jacob Skinner, founder of Pitt St Skatepark, a space where people of all ages can safely engage in wheeled sports and connect with the local community.

Creation DMC worked closely with Pompey Positive to create an authentic and engaging video, capturing Jacob's passion for the skatepark and his positive influence on the community.

The Challenge

The challenge for this video was to highlight Jacob Skinner’s journey and the impact Pitt St Skatepark has had on the Portsmouth community while also introducing the concept of Pompey Positive. The video needed to be engaging, inspiring, and give viewers a genuine sense of connection to the people behind the project.

Our Approach

Purpose & Planning:

  • We began by understanding Pompey Positive’s vision and the message they wanted to convey with the series. The goal was clear: to showcase local heroes who are dedicated to improving the community and creating positive change.
  • Our team then developed a creative approach that focused on Jacob’s story, his commitment to the skatepark, and the broader influence of Pitt St Skatepark on Portsmouth’s youth and sports culture.

Filming the Interview:

  • We filmed the interview with Jacob Skinner at a studio, creating a comfortable and focused environment for the conversation. The studio setting allowed us to capture intimate, detailed responses from Jacob, enabling him to share his passion and vision behind the skatepark.
  • Throughout the interview, we emphasized Jacob's connection to the community and his drive to provide a safe, welcoming space for young people in Portsmouth.

Creative Execution:

  • The editing process combined the heartfelt interview footage with visuals that reinforced the community-focused message. To further emphasize Jacob's connection to the skatepark and the community, we used supporting shots of the skatepark and local action clips, sourced from existing footage, to illustrate the park’s impact.
  • Pompey Positive's branding was seamlessly incorporated to ensure that the video reflected the series' theme of celebrating local heroes.

Challenges and Solutions:

  • One challenge was ensuring that the studio interview would convey the energy and passion of Jacob’s work at Pitt St Skatepark. We overcame this by focusing on the authenticity of Jacob's words and capturing his enthusiasm during the interview, allowing his passion to shine through.

Results

  • Increased Engagement: The video has sparked positive conversations in the community, bringing attention to the importance of local spaces and the people behind them. The series has gained traction on social media, with many sharing their own stories of community involvement.

  • Raised Awareness for Local Heroes: The first episode has put the spotlight on Jacob Skinner and Pitt St Skatepark, helping to elevate their status as key figures in the Portsmouth community.

  • Client Satisfaction: Pompey Positive expressed their excitement about the first episode, noting that it perfectly captured the essence of what they want to showcase: the positive impact local heroes have on the community. The video has become a central piece in their ongoing campaign to highlight Portsmouth's unsung heroes.

Conclusion

This project was a fantastic opportunity to work with Pompey Positive and create a video that celebrates the incredible individuals making a difference in Portsmouth. Through dynamic filming and heartfelt storytelling, Creation DMC successfully brought Jacob Skinner's vision to life, highlighting the positive influence of Pitt St Skatepark and the community it supports. The video series is off to a strong start and will continue to inspire viewers to make a difference in their own communities.
